Gundagai 2024 Barbera

Our first single-varietal red from Gundagai, this Barbera was given extended time in barrel to allow the wine to settle, deepen and find its shape. Grown on volcanic soils and made with patience rather than urgency, it shows the darker, more contemplative side of the site while retaining the natural energy and freshness that Barbera is known for.

Tasting & production notes
What it's like

Deeply coloured and brooding, with dark berries and plum at the core, lifted by a bright raspberry line typical of Barbera. Time in old oak brings polish and savoury nuance rather than overt oak flavour. Medium tannins give a gently drying finish, adding structure and length without heaviness. Serious, composed and quietly expressive.

Serving suggestions

Best served just below room temperature, or lightly chilled in warmer months. An excellent match for roast meats, mushroom dishes and slow-cooked sauces. Drinking beautifully now, but will continue to evolve and soften over the next 5–10 years.

Varieties

100% Barbera from Gundagai, NSW. Grown on volcanic soils in a warm, elevated site that allows full ripening while preserving natural acidity.

Production

Hand harvested with a 100% whole bunch fermentation for several weeks, then gently basket-pressed to our oldest French oak barrels. The wine remained in barrel for extended ageing, allowing tannins to resolve and complexity to build before bottling. Made without fining or filtration, and bottled with a focus on longevity.

"Gee I liked this wine. So silky smooth, elegant, refined and lovingly lengthy."
