Lucky No. 5

The number ‘5’ is Ari’s lucky number. This blend started its existence as a lucky dip barrel that would include lees-y leftovers from racking and other small amounts of juice. Now a fun, juicy celebration of each vintage.

Tasting & production notes
What it's like

Layered, surpisingly complex and chalky but still incredibly juicy and drinkable. An incredible texture from all the lees.

Serve chilled. Goes wonderfully with a cheeky smash burger and chicken wings, even a light salad - extremelly versatile.

Production

Originally born from bottling leftover wine that didn't fit into other batches, now a purposeful blend created from selected wines and lees from across the vintage. The barrels end up as a rolling ferment through the harvest, continuously receiving more juice throughout the season.

Mike Bennie, The Wine Front

Scents of fennel, dried orange, dried rose petals, dried apples, in total giving off a sense of pot pourri or similar. It’s nice and it is exotic. Juicy in the palate, lightly crunchy and crisp, good orange-y tart tang, offers some light puckering tannin and then a lick of mixed botanicals thrown in. Sort of juicy, sort of wild but all highly drinkable. Lots going on and delicious.
